In addition, the most intense parts of the film are real, even though it is based on a fictional book from 2022. Hugh Glass, the main character, was real, as was his attack by a bear, which he survived.
The action takes place in 1823 in North America, and in its center was Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio). Hugh Glass is a member of an expedition in the Rocky Mountains, where he is attacked by a grizzly bear and seriously injured. The captain of the group leaves behind three people (characters played by Tom Hardy, Will Poulter and Domhnall Gleeson) to keep him company in the last moments of his life and to dig his grave.

Between the two camps, Norwegians – self-declared neutrals – are caught in the middle, just like ordinary people in Narvik. 10.Bombshell: Scandalul (2019)
If you want Netflix movies inspired by very recent true events, then Bombshell is for you. Bombshell is the story of media magnate Roger Ailes, who created Fox News. He is accused by journalists and presenters from Fox News of sexual assaults that are difficult to comprehend in our century. The film is interesting and well-acted, but a bit unhinged and silent. Three super actresses play the lead roles. Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron – the latter almost unrecognizable by facial transformation to resemble news anchor Megyn Kelly. You can find it on Netflix.
Another take on the same Bombshell storyline is the HBO miniseries The Loudest Voice, starring Russell Crowe as Roger Ailes. We prefer the latter.
11. The Angel (2018)
Must-see Netflix inspired by true events. It’s sophisticated in the way it presents the moral dilemmas and positions of spies and statesmen, but we also liked it for the exotic atmosphere of the Arab world, through customs, lush interiors and spoken languages, from Arabic to Yiddish.
The film is the story of Ashraf Marwan, an Egyptian moderate who helped the Israeli side as a spy in the Arab conflict of the 1970s. But more than that, Ashraf comes across in the film as an extremely skilled strategist who played both ends, both for the Egyptian side and for the Israeli side… You have to see the film to get the full story.
The Angel is the adaptation of the non-fiction book The Angel: The Egyptian Spy Who Saved Israel.
12. Deepwater Horizon (2016)
Deepwater Horizon depicts the events of a real-life disaster. This is about one of the biggest ecological catastrophes: the explosion of an oil rig that led to the biggest oil pollution in history. The giant British Petroleum’s platform in the Gulf of Mexico ends up blowing up due to human errors in the chain.
The main characters, who work on the platform, Mike (Mark Wahlberg) and Jimmy (Kurt Russell), try to save what they can and minimize the effects of the disaster. The visuals and tension of the film will haunt you long after you finish watching Deepwater Horizon.
Justifiably well received by critics, Deepwater Horizon has already fallen into the shadows despite being released relatively recently in 2016. Unfortunately, this is the common fate of many good action movies. It’s kind of the curse of this genre.
13. The Dig – Netflix
Do you miss seeing Ralph Fiennes in a role? He is joined by Carey Mulligan, Lily James and other equally good actors in the drama The Dig. The film is based on real characters and events, although it is based on a novel When a wealthy widow hires an amateur archaeologist to excavate tombs on her property, the two make a discovery that changes history… This is the plot of the film, but it is doubled by two romantic plots in this very English drama.
The film has that sobriety typical of English politeness, which makes the story even more intense. Beyond the self-imposed distance that seems to come from coldness, passions and desires smolder. The Dig has received rave reviews, and if you ask us, we loved it too.
14. Operation Finale (2018)
It’s a drama with elements of a spy action movie. The action takes place after the end of the Second World War, when Israel’s spy agency, the Mossad, does everything possible to capture Adolf Eichmann, the man behind the Holocaust, in Argentina.
The implementation of the capture plan will keep you glued to your seat, providing quality entertainment. But more than that, it’s a drama film about Jews who risk becoming murderers themselves in an attempt to catch the old mass murderer, while the latter seems like a downright innocent man. It’s not a cinematic masterpiece, but it’s a good movie. Very well made and very well acted by Oscar Isaac, Ben Kingsley and Melanie Laurent.
15. The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020)
It’s a legal and historical drama with an exceptional cast: Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Eddie Redmayne, Frank Langella and Yahya Abdul-Mateen (Aquaman). Yes, quite a lot of men, but that’s because the film follows the story of seven anti-Vietnam War protesters in 1968.
The script was written in 2007 and was supposed to be directed by Steven Spielberg, but due to a writers’ strike, the plan fell through. And bad luck didn’t leave him completely, because in 2020, when it was supposed to be released in theaters by Paramount, the pandemic came. But since one person’s bad luck is another’s good fortune, Netflix has bought the distribution rights, so we can see it on Netflix starting October 16th. It was well received by critics and from the trailer it looks like it promises to be a great experience.
